The Pilot, on the other hand, has a 7.3-inch ground clearance, a 113.8-inch wheelbase and a 199.9-inch length. LED headlamps and 18-inch aluminum wheels are standard in both cases, and both automakers offer 20-inch wheels as an upgrade. Roof rails and a hands-free liftgate are available as upgrades as well in both cases.

Dedicated and overall cargo space are comparable. The Honda has a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Toyota has an eight speed. Front-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive is optional across the board with the exception of the new Honda TrailSport, which includes it. Trailering equipment is available for the Highlander and Pilot, and both can tow up to 5,000 pounds. However, this towing rating requires choosing AWD with the Honda, which is not the case with the Toyota.

The two brands offer similar options, and those include a surround-view camera system and a head-up display.
